To start out my civil service project, I volunteered down at St. Mary’s food bank and helped out in the assembly line creating boxes of food for different underprivileged families here in Phoenix. This visit to St. Mary’s entailed, sorting food into several different boxes which would later be used to create smaller boxes of food that would be sent to different families. The second time that I volunteered I went to Harkins Theatre with Mitch and collected turkeys with the Interact Club at Boulder Creek as well as Claudia from St. Mary’s. We parked a van outside of Harkins Theatre and as people pulled up to drop off the turkeys they were donating, we would put them into the van where they would be kept. While collecting turkeys, we also collected donations from moviegoers. I was informed that every $1 that was donated helped to provide 7 meals. The third time that I volunteered, I returned to St. Mary’s food bank with my mother and we volunteered for 3 hours. While volunteering, we taped boxes that were sent down an assembly line where they were filled with food and then sealed and sent to families here in Phoenix. We also helped to organize food that was donated to St. Mary’s and helped break down boxes.
